Microsoft TrueType Font Packs and Kerning

Does anyone know if the typefaces in the Microsoft TrueType Font Packs contain
kerning pairs?  I've been told the first pack doesn't.  Does this impact
output quality significantly?  If so, is there a way I could obtain revised
versions of the Lucida files which have kerning info?
