In article <1993Jan10.022251.19724@microsoft.com>, georgem@microsoft.com (George Moore) says: >The Cyrillic and Extended Cyrillic areas of the Lucida Sans Unicode >font contain the Old Slavonic Church characters. Like most people, I have not seen NT or Lucida Sans Unicode, but here are a few remarks: 1. There are 2 approaches to rendering obsolete Cyrillyc letters (yat's, yuses, etc): either use a modern-looking typeface, where these letters look compatible with modern letters (the approach taken in most Western textbooks of Old Church Slavonic) or to render them in a black-letter-like typeface designed in 19th century by a Czech slavist Shafarik (sorry, I'm not spelling this right :). The Unicode book, unfortunately, renders the early letters in Shafarik, so if Lucida follows that, Vasya will have to mix modern-looking surviing letters, like A, B, V.. with black-letter- looking early letters, like Zelo or Yat', or the titlos he asked about (yes, that's the official English name) --- much too ugly to be usable. If you provide a font variant, you have to provide all the letters in that variant. (Imagine rendering early English with most letters from Times Roman and Thorn, Edh, and Yogh from a display face resembling Fraktur. OK, maybe to Microsoft users this is acceptable. :) 2. Note that Vasya hails from Moldova. If Vasya tries to render old Moldavian manuscripts (which use Cyrillic) in Unicode, he'll have a problem, because Unicode lacks the very important letter YN. It looks like a latin i with an oversized circumflex and was replaced by a regular Russian yery in 1920. 3. Are there any plans to support Unicode in OS/2 2.x? We can't use programs that are Not There for production work. Dimitri
