Several weeks ago I reported a problem with the Font Palette in OS/2 2.1. While most fonts could be installed without trouble, certain ones, including the Adobe Minion Cyrillic family, would refuse to install, generating an error message about insufficient memory. An ofm file was created during this failed installation, but it was apparently corrupt and therefore uninstallable. IBM has assigned this problem defect #74528 and APAR #10076. The original problem report number is 8X489,PSX. Meanwhile, IBM has provided a workaround that provides users with continued access to these fonts. The procedure is: 1) Install the fonts using Font Palette. This will generate the error messages noted above. 2) Using a binary editor, change the first byte of each of the newly generated ofm files to 0x01. 3) Install the fonts again, using the newly patched ofm files instead of the afm files. 4) If you get an error message about the fonts already being installed, copy the pfb and the patched ofm files to a safe location and then use Font Palette to delete the fonts in question. If the afm file remains after this deletion, you can delete it from a command line. Then reinstall the fonts using the patched ofm files. --David ================================================== Professor David J.
