Announcing the beta release of

			MPEGe lib version 0.1

MPEGelib is a C library of functions designed to allow you to create
MPEG movies from your own applications. It is possible to make MPEG
movies using just 3 functions!

The encoder is based on the Berkeley Parallel MPEG encoder and is
fully configurable to allow you to specify bit rate, frame pattern,
compression quality and all that kind of stuff.

full documentation is available at
http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/~ark/mpegelib/

The distribution is only available via email (for these first few
early versions) and contains.

o The source for MPEGelib complete with makefile and associated files
 o Full documentation in HTML
o an example application which makes MPEG movies from some ppm images
o demo ppm images to use with the simple encoder example

You will need a copy of Berkeley's MPEG encoder (version 1.5b is the
best bet) but the location of this is included in the distribution.

Images are passed to the library using the structure used by SDSC's
Image Library (although you don't need this to use MPEGelib)

So far it has been successfully installed on
 o Sun Sparc running Solaris
 o HPUX machine
 o Linux (Slakware 1.2 Kernel 1.1.75 (yes I know it's old!))

If you would like to know more about it, or would like to give it a
whirl please mail me at the address below.
