The Rainbow Group in the University of Cambridge's Computer Laboratory
has been researching computer graphics since 1965. The group has always
thrived on having a wide spectrum of research interests and this is
especially true today. Its two major research projects are a multi-view
3D autostereo display and the "Digital Desk" with which users combine
interaction between electronic and paper documents. The speakers will
briefly describe these projects together with the group's other work
in the modelling/rendering and HCI fields.
Peter Brown will then describe his work on selective refinement of
terrain and 3D models, which is the subject of a technical sketch at
SIGGRAPH 97. A framework will be presented which permits flexible and
accurate Level of Detail management of 3D models.
Brett Saunders will also introduce his work with articulated figure
animation, and the methods he hopes to develop for creating fast
physically correct movements of animated characters.
