Okay... SECOND TIME AROUND... I don't need people pointing somewhere else for answers (they DON'T HELP!) (if you can help, please do; don't call me names, don't suggest that we're dumb, don't slag my mom, etc, etc) PLEASE remember that SOME FOLKS ISP'S cant "reach" the Corel Newsgroups, etc, etc). We appreciate the idea that this problem may originate in the RIP. Any assistance that we can give to you will be returned. THANKS to anyone who can help us FIX THIS PROBLEM! Okay; we got the newest patch for Corel 8. We run a Win 95 machine on an NT network to a Harlequin RIP to an AGFA 9800. SO WHY DOES COREL NOT OUTPUT SCREENS PROPERLY? Yes, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong too, but just SHOW me what I'm doing wrong someone PLEASE! One graphic is supposed to come out green (PMS 341 to Process; yes we know the routine) and its ending up teal. I think its fabulous Corel has tried to do something about Colour Management. But could they be a tad more EXPLICIT? There is nothing wrong with the RIP nor the densitometer we use to measure whats happening on the film. Quark can do this. PhotoShop can do this, etc, etc... I'd like Corel to try and remember that most of its users are people who try to push the limits of what their software was supposed to do. And unfortunately a lot of service bureaus have turned away Corel users for problems like this in the past. Its very (VERY!) frustrating for those people with years of experience in prepress to waste manhours and film trying their best to help their clients; only to continually run into these problems. I recall an article about 6 months ago in Corel magazine (on the back page) that more or less said "if your service bureau sniffs about outputting Corel files, go somewhere else". Grab some hubris pal! Nobody wants to turn away customers, but if Corel can't educate or listen to those people it relies upon to support the claim "The Choice of Professionals"; its shelf life and value to the prepress profession is limited indeed. ANYWAY... this rant is the result of two days of frustration and NO HELP. I want to output a 12x18" document to our imagesetter (from Corel 8 on Windows 95 on an NT network to a Harlequin RIP and an AGFA imagesetter- 150 LPI RRED 4 Plates, C,M,Y,K). I want the screens to come out properly and I don't want to "insert a bloody disk" to have to do it. Can someone please TELL ME HOW and I won't bother you again.

I don't have Corel 8, but I can tell you how to alter the screen angles and frequencies in Corel 7: In the PRINT dialog box, click on OPTIONS. In the OPTIONS dialog box, click on the SEPARATIONS tab. Enable PRINT SEPARATIONS Click on ADVANCED settings button You'll see the separations listed. You'll also see selection buttons for various types of screens for the device you're using. Instead of the Corel default, select AGFA balanced screening, or another setting that pleases you. Alternatively, you can change the settings individually. Click on the one you want to adjust. Below, you should see input boxes for the screen frequency and angle. Type in the screen frequency and the angle, only use an industry standard frequency and angle, not the Corel defaults. Sorry I don't know what they would be for your situation.

I have no idea how to make it work in CorelDRAW 8, but I can suggest a workaround. The best color management is in Illustrator and Freehand. Both can import CorelDRAW 4, 5 and 6 formats. (The CDR 6 import filters are not always perfect because they were reverse engineered.) So, if CorelDRAW can save the graphic to a previous version, preferably CDR 5, then you can haul it into Illustrator 7 or Freehand 7 or 8, and do your output from there. You could also try exporting from CorelDRAW in other formats as well, such as AI or EPS. I realize this does not answer the original question, but at least maybe it will help you get the job out the door so you can go back to having a life. NOTICE: The e-mail address is deliberately incorrect. Make the ISP read "nwpacifica.net" by adding a "w."

The screen frequency and angle settings I used were in the tech manuals that came with the AGFA imagesetter.
