HELP!: Best Graphics Formats, Multiple Sources, (PM6 to Xerox Docutech)

I am publishing a technical manual using PageMaker 6.0 (Windows 3.11). I
have many graphic images originating from many sources. I am having
trouble getting some of them to print right even though they import into
my document O.K.

I'm printing Postscript, using gray scale images, CAD and line art to
Xerox DocuTech (135 I think) at 600 dpi.

I want to keep the document file size as small as possible without
degrading the image quality.

Graphics originate from the following applications:

AutoCAD 12/Windows (CAD schematics and drawings)
Corel Draw 5.0/Windows (Line art illustration)
Photoshop 3.0/Windows (Bitmapped images, gray scale only)

I am somewhat new to PageMaker and want to know what are the best
formats to stick to for publishing with PageMaker. Also, what is the
best way to take my document and prepare it for Postscript printing to
Xerox DocuTech?

Any direction is greatly appreciated!

Reed

The Xerox Docutech 135 is esentially a 600 dpi PostScript laser printer
that happens to print 135 8.5x11 pages per minute. Therefore, prepare
your document as if you are printing to any PostScript printer.

Graphic images are best if saved as .EPS or as .TIF. The tiff images
should be sampled at a dpi of at least twice the lpi frequency of the
output device. In the case of the docutech, its default halftone is
65 lpi, so your tiff images should be saved at about 150 dpi. Go to
200 dpi if you plan to output to any other postscript laser printers
that image at higher lpi values.

Good luck
