Hello,

I want to draw contour maps from a two dimensional matrix of scalar values.
I am not an expert in graphics techniques and am unfamiliar with basic
concepts and the literature. This is for a limited project and I do not want
to become an expert. The routines need to be modestly sophisticated since
the data is somewhat noisy, fairly in places and can have several peaks and
troughs. Typical arrays are 4000 rows by 40 columns and span values +- 60
arbitrary units.

Can anyone point me at or supply me with a subroutine or group of subroutines
that can scan a matrix and generate a series of x-y pairs that I can feed to
my graphic routines to draw a contour map of the data?

I am working on VMS so I can link from my C routines to functions written in
FORTRAN, C, PASCAL, BASIC, or VMS-ASSEMBLER. FORTRAN or C would be better for
me since I know these languages fairly well and could adapt them for my
purposes.

I am not a subscriber to INFO-GRAPHICS so please send any responses to one of
the addresses listed below. Thank you.
