Import 3d Scalars into explorer

My data set is 256x256x124 and 8 bits deep. We used dscribe to
write a module that will read the data into explorer. Unfortunately,
when we run it we get two errors in rapid succession:
	1) Module bob2lat exhauseted shared memory, aborting execution
	   Geometry output may be corrupted

	and

	2) Module "bob2lat" (0) killed -- segmentation fault, core
	   dumped.

The 3D Uniform lattice in the output lattice contains a vector of
floats in its data array while the input template has an array of chars.
Is this a problem?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
