Has anyone out there had any experience getting explorer running on a SUN? I've heard of a few ways to do this.. apparently NAG in the u.k has, or is about to have, a port that uses the XGL stuff on the Sparcs. Another option is to get Nths Protable GL library for which Sparc compatible explorer executables maybe obtained. The third is to get similiar product from Dupont. I'd be interested in hearing about anyones experience good or bad with these or any other options. -- Thanks, Tom Canales

I think they intend to use Nth Graphics' XGL, and will use OpenGL when it comes to be. DuPont Pixel has their own version, also based on 2.0, that uses their hardware GL board. Dupont demo'd Explorer on SPARCStations at Siggraph '92. The port was done in-house at SGI last year, and it went fairly smoothly. We have had fairly positive experiences with both Nth Graphics and Dupont Pixel products. Most everything we threw at them worked. But it was not really an Explorer effort, since Explorer does plain Motif and all of the GL is through IRIS Inventor, which does not exercise the entire GL. Both companies have been cooperative and easy to work with. Bob Brown --------------- Robert L. Brown Manager, IRIS Explorer Silicon Graphics, Inc.

NPGL calls XGL. -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Hanson - Scientific Graphics Programmer and Workstation Administrator Sverdrup Technology, NASA Lewis Research Center Group NASA Lewis Research Center, MS 86-4, Cleveland, Ohio 44135 Telephone - (216) 433-2284 Fax - (216) 433-2182 tohanson@gonzo.lerc.nasa.gov - ViSC: Better Science Through Pictures Visualize whirled peas - Bumper sticker seen in Buffalo, NY
