Is there anyway to use the VolumeToGeom module without Alpha bitplanes? I have a 4D35TG on which ginv gives: Screen Resolution: 1280 x 1024 pixels. Zbuffer Resolution: 0xFF800000 min 0x7FFFFF max. No Accumulation Buffer present. Alpha bitplanes in DoubleBuffered: 0, SingleBuffered: 0 Red bitplanes in DoubleBuffered: 4, SingleBuffered: 8 Green bitplanes in DoubleBuffered: 4, SingleBuffered: 8 Blue bitplanes in DoubleBuffered: 4, SingleBuffered: 8 Zbuffer bitplanes present: 24 Stencil bitplanes present: 0 Overlay bitplanes present: 4 PopUp bitplanes present: 2 Underlay bitplanes present: 4 User-defined Clipping Planes present: 0 antialiased points available in colormap antialiased points not available in RGB antialiased lines available in colormap antialiased lines not available in RGB antialiased polygons not available in RGB Number of verticies per polygon allowed: 256. The important point here is the 0 Alpha bitplanes. I would even be interested in something slow and non-interactive like a translation to a format understood by one of the PD ray-tracing packages. Assuming no luck on the above, can a 4D35/TG be upgraded to have Alpha bitplanes? (I haven't bothered to call my Sales person yet :^) ) Thanks for any information.

It isn't alpha planes that you need, it's blend hardware. You can write a little program to find out if you have the proper hardware with a call to getgdesc(). To the best of my knowledge, it is not available on PIs. Roy Hashimoto hashimoto@sgi.com
