I would appreciate any information on the module VectorGen. This is how I think it works. I have 3d volumetric data of heart cusp. The data looks like this. Resolution 20 11 3 x coord ycoord z coord function 3.0E+00 10.0E+00 4.0E+00 3.0E+00 . . . When I use vectorgen in my map I get vectors at my coordinate points. I think that explorer takes the function value as the length of the vector and uses an angle of 90 degrees as a default value. This is how I think it works. I am wondering how to get different angles for the vectors. I would think you would make your data look like this Resolution 20 11 3 xcoord ycoord zcoord function vecx vecy vecz 3.0E+00 10.0E+00 4.0E+00 10.0E+00 3.0E+00 4.0E+00 10.0E+00 . . . The function value would correspond to the different colours you wanted. VECx, VEcy, Vecz would be used to calculate the angle and the length of the vector. If this is the way explorer does it, how does it differentiate between the function value used for the colour map and the values used to calculate the vector. I am using DsCurvEX module to read in my data. I modified this module for the extra data and used vectorgen in my map. It didn't quite work. I don't know if it is because of the dscribe module or the way I think explorer works with vectorgen. Thanks Lisa

This should help you to verify whether the data is read in correctly. Send me mail if you still have problem on dscribe. John P. Hwa hwa@sgi.com

It uses the three function values to give direction. If you provide 1 function value, VectorGen assumes it is a delta-X direction. Two values gives delta-(X,Y).
