Dear graphics workers,
The Graphics Industry in Australia
I have been asked to write an article reviewing the Computer Graphics industry
"state-of-the-art" in Australia. The article can consider technical, business,
application and market conditions. The article will appear in a special issue
of the SIGGRAPH Quarterly "Computer Graphics" which will review the
"state-of-the-art" of the Computer Graphics industry world-wide. The issue is
scheduled for May 1996.
Two other graphics researchers/practitioners have agreed to co-author this
article, Dr Binh Pham and Dr Ken Tsui, in an effort to get a complete a
coverage as we can of Australian graphics industry.
This is an opportunity to promote awareness of the Australian graphics
industry more broadly. The final article will be about 2000 words.
We are thus gathering information on who's doing what in the computer graphics
industry in Australia. We are looking for condensed information under the
broad headings of:
- Market and business conditions (size, main areas of focus, etc)
- Applications areas
- Technical capabilities
- Research activity
- current needs (eg shortage of practitioners, graphics experience, etc)
- other factors of importance
We would be pleased to receive information by email, mail, fax, or phone, and
would be very happy to receive suggestions on how best to present the
material. We plan to include a list of industry groups and their focus with
the survey. We will need to receive the material by 31st December to meet the
deadline for the article.
We would like to encourage researchers to participate in this information
gathering, and hope that we can use it to help build links between industry
and researchers also. We can make the information available on a Web server.
If you are working in the field, know of a source of summary information along
these lines, know someone who has done somethin similar, or have a relevant
mailing list, please contact any of the names below.
Thanks, Phil Robertson
