VISITING TORONTO
The name Toronto comes from the Huron Indian word meaning
"place of meeting." It is the ninth largest metropolis in
North America, offering the best of big city excitement and
small town virtues. Toronto has been called the "city of
neighbourhoods", each with its own colour and flavour.
Toronto has more than 80 different ethnic groups speaking
more than 100 different languages.
ATTRACTIONS: The CN Tower, the world's tallest free standing
structure, has three observation decks and a rotating
restaurant. The SkyDome, with a fully retractable roof, is
the home of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. Maple Leaf
Gardens hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. Art lovers
will enjoy the Art Gallery of Ontario and its Henry Moore
Sculpture Centre as well as many other small galleries.
ENTERTAINMENT: There is a large selection of live theatre,
classical music, jazz, rock, ballet, opera, and comedy.
DINING: There are over 5,000 restaurants serving every kind
of food imaginable, including Chinese, Middle Eastern, Thai,
Jamaican, Mexican, Italian, Greek, Indian, French, Japanese
and other selections.
SHOPPING: The Eaton Centre, the city's largest indoor
shopping complex is connected to the conference hotel via
Toronto's Underground City, the world's largest network of
subterranean malls. Queen Street West, with its collection of
trendy clubs and cafs, offers a delightfully eclectic mix of
stores. Toronto also has some very prestigious shopping in
the nearby Yorkville area.

during the conference period is 12 degrees Celsius (53
degrees Fahrenheit) with an average low of 5 degrees Celsius
(41 degrees Fahrenheit).
