On the 28 June 1996, I called 168 Club to see if 168 Club credited my account. 168 Club informed that they did, but not for the full amount. I inquired as to why 168 Club did not apply the full amount. 168 Club directed me to their RMA Department where they told me they had to charge a restocking fee. I asked why they charged a restocking fee on defective equipment returns. 168 Clubs RMA Department replied that the charge incurred due to the fact that the item returned was over 14 days after the item shipped. I explained the troubles I had trying to get the computer working and the fact that the driver disk for the soundcard was corrupt. I talked to Tech Support about the troubles. They helped me to get the motherboard working and said they would send out a new driver disk. I never received it however and decided to return the Soundcard for refund. All this took apx. 2 weeks. I feel that the delay was in no way was my fault and was the fault of 168 Club. I feel it is out of line to charge the restocking fee and I should get full credit applied to my account. After explaining all this to the RMA department, they were unwilling to work with me on this matter. They informed me it was 168 Clubs strict policy to charge a restocking fee on items over 14 days. In September of 1995, I purchased one of 168 Clubs VLB Motherboards. It worked OK up until a couple of months ago. I called Tech Support and they said to return it. After over a week, I still did not hear from 168 Club. I called to inquire about the board. He said they had just received it and would call me back when they had found out something about it. Another week expired and no word from 168 Club. I called again. They said the board was bad and they would send out another one. Another week went by, and no Motherboard. I called and they said they were out of stock but should have one in next week. Next week I called back and 168 Club still did not have any Motherboards in stock. They said maybe later in the week. The following Week 168 Club informed after I called them AGAIN, that my Motherboard had shipped. I received the board later on that week, but it also did not work. The exact same problem existed. I looked at the serial number and found they had sent me my OLD motherboard back to me. I called Tech Support who apologized then transferred me to RMA where I received a RMA number. I returned the board. Finally after nearly 60 days I received a motherboard that worked. Due to the delay of 168 Club, I had to wait for nearly 2 months to get my computer working again. This resulted in an untold amount of Internet Business loss. I have also gotten complaints about 168 Club Zoltrix modems (which they no longer sell), as I have had a 50% failure rate with them. I have had a plethora of other returns including Incomplete orders, CD-Rom Drives with no cables, defective Hard Drives, Motherboards shipped with no cache on them, and Broken cases. There are other discrepancies also that I have forgotten over time. I feel that over the years I have received computer equipment from 168 Club, that the merchandise is not 100% up too acceptable marketing standards. I feel that 168 Club might return defected items into stock. This is only a theory of mine, but seems to substantiate itself due to the amount of defective merchandise I have received. I have lost numerous sales due to defective merchandise, and probably lost extra business due to word of mouth disseminated from unsatisfied customers. -- FREE Web Design - http://www.rdrop.com/~fn448/cwd THOBBS Computer Sales - http://www.rdrop.com/~fn448 FREE Calling Card - http://www.rdrop.com/~fn448/calling FREE 911 BackUp Software - http://www.rdrop.com/~fn448/911 FREE Long Distance - http://www.nfinity.com/~arehm/phone1.html
