I bought a Packard Bell Pentium 75 (Model AXCEL 467CD) about two years ago. It performs a number of functions that necessitate its being ON all the time. At night, I use a power management feature to turn off the monitor, but I do not use CPU power management. Recently in the morning after the house has cooled down over night, I have observed what appears to be bearing noise in a fan located at the back of the PC. After an hour or so, the noise level of the unit returns to normal. This has occurred several times over the past two weeks. Also, I discovered several months ago when I turned the PC off and left it off overnight that I had bearing noise in the same fan unit when I powered up but since the PC is seldom OFF it did not concern me at the time. I have seen comments in the past in USENET forums that PB PCs are not easily worked on for other than upgrade-type tasks. My experience working inside PCs includes only doing CPU, memory, and disk upgrades and installing PC cards. Now, several questions: Can I or should I replace this fan myself? If so, will I have to order a part from Packard Bell (if that is even possible for non-business customers) or can I find a suitable replacement at an electronic supply house? If the latter, does anyone have any recommendations via mail-order or locally in the Atlanta, Georgia metro area? If I cannot or should not repair this myself, can someone recommend a local Atlanta facility that could do the work perhaps while I wait? I would hope that this can be done without the loss of the PC for any significant amount of time. Even better, does anyone have any experience with on-site service for Packard Bell PCs either by PB or an independent? Any Atlanta recommendations? Thanks in advance for any info on this matter and the numbers of any local Atlanta contacts that might be able to help. R L Samuell
