Hi all... There's something I want to do, and I cannot believe that it hasn't already been done by many folks, so before I start digging myself a hole when I could have just climbed down an already-dug one, I thought I should see what might be out there in relevant newsgroups. I want to take the files that the Unix man command uses to format man pages onscreen, and turn them into both Word or Frame documents and HTML documents. I want to automate the process so that when someone updates one of those documents it can get pulled in and update the web page automatically, and be pulled into a Word- or Frame-based reference document for hardcopy printing in a very easy way. I've been thinking of using Word 97's VBA to process the files and ASP on an IIS/NT 4 server to tie together the Web presentation. Has anyone out there done something similar? Is there a good off-the-shelf tool I might want to check out? And, can anyone point me to a reference where I can determine the syntax of the man page source files (I was told they're done in troff)? Thanks! -Alan Oehler, CellNet Data Systems, Inc.

To avoid reinventing the wheel, first look at the program "rman"
(formerly known as PolyglotMan), which accepts [nt]roff source for
man pages from most varieties of Unix and can output versions in
formats including ASCII, HTML, SGML, LaTeX, RTF, and TkMan.
Source can be found at:
