Objective:
To find a top 100 list of most frequently
searched subjects on the WWW.
Conditions:
NOT keywords. Keywords suck. I am not
interested in keywords.
Qualification:
Simply the top SUBJECTS searched on the internet.
A category based list. For example:
pornography
religion
computer programming
etc.
Plea:
Can anybody help?
Does anybody know the answer?
Is this the most objective way to assess
the internet and NOBODY has done it yet?
Further details:
I have tried searching for things like:
+most +searched +subjects +internet
What are the most searched topics on the internet?
+"top 100" +"internet subjects"
etc.
With no success.
Please help!

Assuming that's what you've got in mind (seems likley), you would need to aggregate the searches of some or all of the internet search engines. Some engines are general purpose, some are specialised. Let's assume you're interested only in the general purpose ones. Then you'd have AltaVista, Google, Lycos .... etc. You'd need to find if they are keeping some sort of stats on the types of queries their users are making. Probably they do. Then you would need to get these figures from all the search engine organisation, or a representative sample, and munge them together in some way. It would be an interesting academic exercise. But I suspect that the Search engine sites keep hold of that info as closely guarded commercial intelligence ... the searching game seems pretty competitive, and info like that is worth money. In any case, unless omeone has already done research along the lines I outlined above, and published their results, I doubt you're going to get any good info. How could someone provide the info you want without having done such an exercise? Cheers Andrew
