                        THE VLDB JOURNAL
General Information and Subscription by Email

AIM AND SCOPE

The VLDB Journal is a quarterly publication of the VLDB Endow-
ment. The journal is dedicated to the publication of scholary
contributions to the advancement of information system architec-
tures, the reflection of technological impacts, and the develop-
ment of novel applications. The journal was launched in July
1992.

In addition to its goal as an outlet for high quality and timely
research and development results, the journal has two important
goals:

1) A commitment to low cost so that it is widely affordable.
It's cost is $24 for an individual ($96 for an institution).

2) A commitment to a quick publication of accepted papers, so as
to publish the most recent and timely results.

We achieve cost savings by using the efforts of a volunteer staff
and the support of the VLDB Endowment. There are no additional
administrative costs.

We achieve high quality and timely publication by employing a
large editorial board of internationally known researchers and a
thorough review procedure. Each editor handles a relatively
small number of papers at any one time, and can pay more atten-
tion to quality and timeliness of reviews. Furthermore, if the
journal will generate surplus subscription funds, they will be
used to increase the number of pages per issue in order to reduce
the publication backlog.
