The company that I work for is in the middle of growing pains. I have been asked to determine what the policy should be for the purchase of PC related software within the company. The group I manage supports all PC's, workstations, servers, and midrange computers within our company. We currently have "standards" for hardware. Where we don't have "standards" or "recommendations" in place is the software area. This is the problem we're trying to get our arms around. Do we set "standards" that must be followed and then support that software, or do we set "recommendations" to follow but you can still buy what you want, although we only support the recommended software? I'm looking for input from anyone who's gone down this road. What choices did you make? Why did you go that route? If you did standardize, how did you deal with the folks who were using non-standard software? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Kelley Shaddrick kshaddri@cerf.net
