I have a standard 12 cm Compact Disc, and also contain a video. The disc is labeled CD VIDIO, and contains 3 audio track & 1 video track. The audio tracks can read with a standard CD player. Does anyone known how, to extract the video (frame by frame) from the disc using Sun's CDROM player. Or does any know the storage format, so I can decode the video data (assuming I can read the raw data). Mark

The only way I know of to read it is with a laserdisc player. Since it is, I believe, recorded using CLV (constant linear velocity), you would need to get an LD player with a frame store to do frame-by-frame playback. I have heard of only one industrial player that can do this. Some consumer players can do freeze field, which might be acceptable. You would still need to use a frame grabber to get the video into your computer. -- Bill McFadden Tektronix, Inc. P.O. Correct. The video portion is read at a completely different speed as well.
No CD-ROM players known to me can read CDV-5. They would have to have a
separate composite or Y/C video output in any case, because the bit rate of
digitized video (14 Mbytes/sec or higher) is too fast for SCSI.

No such thing exists. The Pioneer LD-V8000 has frame store, but can't play
5-inch media. No consumer "combi" players have true frame store (they have
field store).
So, the only solution is to run the output of a consumer combi player into
a frame grabber.
