Hello People
I am looking for source code and or a working program to do a low
level format on a IBM-XT with a Seagate ST-225 (21M) hard drive.
I am not so much interested in saving an old dying hard drive as
I am in just trying to see what happens. If it fixes the hard
drive, or keeps it going for a little longer then I will have
done what I set out to do. I can compile C, or C++, or assembler.
I have both Borland and Microsoft development systems to handle
most types of code.
Thank You For Your Time

Most of the old MFM drive controllers had an on-board formatter. Just go to a dos prompt and run debug..... from the debug prompt, try g=c800:5 That will start the internal formatter on most MFM controllers.

This is more relevant to a systems newsgroup rather than a language
newsgroup. If you just want to format the drive why don't you just look
for a low level formatting program? There's bound to be one floating around
somewhere in a disk utilities directory in a major archive such as SimTel.
