Dim and random files

To use a varible with random files in PowerBasic 3.2 I have to use this
command line for each one:

dim VARIBLE as string * LENGTH

Then I can read and write to a random file with that varible, my question
is can I do this to anything that goes to that file without using that
line for each one? Or do it to all varibles with only a few lines of code?
Thanks in advance!!!!!
