AFAIK, please correct me if I'm wrong, Vista is supposed to rely fairly heavily on .NET. Also, AFAIK, .NET is eventually supposed to replace the Windows API (as we know it). However, right now, for all intents and purposes, all versions of Windows so far function fine without it, and it's only purpose is as the runtime for .NET programs. It is in essence an Win API alternative, and for XP and higher it's a non issue, but for those of us who still develop for a broader audience, the .NET runtime or API or framework or whatever you want to call it, is just a runtime, and a large on at that, for W2K and older. Or did .NET ship with .NET installed as default on W2K? Either way, I think you get my point. Further to this, there's no guarantee that the end user hasn't uninstalled the .NET framework even on newer systems. -- HK
