But perhaps I really want to know is it *for* real? Has anyone tried it? Did it work as you expected? Would you recommend it to your best friend, your mother-in-law, innocent bystanders? I received a postcard today extolling the virtues of the PB/DLL Compiler. It was on "special" for USD99.00 to 12/31/95 [I assume that's yankee code for 31 Dec 95? ;-) ] but the postcard was over-stamped "Offer Extended For 30 Days" -- presumably until *nearly* 31 Jan 96. :) S&H adds USD6.00 to the price in the USA, or USD28.00 for overseas orders. According to the ads on the card, this PowerBASIC product is a native-code Basic compiler offering code and data pointers and a built-in assembler. It creates "industry-standard DLL's using the full power of the 32-bit instruction set." [I think those DLLs are plural, not possessive.] The suggestion is that you should use VB for the interface and forms design, and PowerBASIC for number crunching etc., and link the two for the final product of your endeavours. They give examples of the speed improvement possible (times in seconds): VB VB with PB/DLL Sieve (500 iterations) 28.67 3.02 BasicPro Long Interger 7.58 1.09 (1 million iterations) (I imagine these examples are chosen to illustrate a point. :-) It would be interesting to hear from actual *users* of this product as to how they have found it in practice. But then, if no one has been able to buy it yet, that might be asking a bit much. :) Cheers, Ian S. P.S. Note followups to c.l.b.v.3rdparty -- Ian Staples E-mail : I.Staples@dpi.qld.gov.au c/- P.O.
