Most people -do- buy products based on brand and not on merit, and Microsoft understands this. So does Peter Norton. But I think that by-and-large developers do not. Developers are fond collectors of software and frequently own (or "posess") or have recently evaluated copies of nearly everything. If it's better, "cool!" If it's not, "dog bait." (Programmers have a peculiar but succint vernacular...) But the more revenue-producing software you own that was written in a particular system, the less likely you are to want to "dump it" for any reason. That will always be the case in life. Visual Basic won't die, and neither (now) will Delphi, because it would not make business sense for a lot of companies to let it do so. And you won't see Microsoft doing any such thing because, hell, they SELL it and make a lot of MONEY from it. :-) /mr/ "Money wins in the end."
