"The White OO Nights" - a 2-day international conference focusing on
object-oriented technology, WOON '96, is to be held at St. Petersburg,
Russia, on June 20 and 21, 1996. Object technology experts from West
and East gather together to share their ideas and experiences with each
other at a very special time of a year - the White Nights - no darkness
at all - nearly 24 hours of daylight. During the following weekend
there will be an optional sightseeing programme including visiting
the Hermitage and Peterhof (If you stay over the weekend, the
airline fares are rather low).

Important Dates:

        o Notification of submissions due March 31st, 1996
        o Submissions due                       April 21th, 1996
        o Notification to authors               May 10th, 1996
        o Final pre-conference draft due        June 5th, 1996

        o Proceedings draft due                 August 31st, 1996

WOON '96 welcomes high quality papers describing relevant research in, or
experience with, the object oriented paradigm. A non-exhaustive list of
suggested topics:

        * Reports of experience with OO technology
        * Migration towards OO software development
        * Management and training issues
        * OO user interfaces, persistence and databases
        * Class management and evolution
        * Empirical and field studies
        * Production, distribution and revenue collection of
             industrial-quality reusable components
        * Design and Implementation of OO languages.

case up to March 31th. Papers should be formatted in Postscript, RTF
format or ASCII. They should not exceed 10 pages and should be prefaced
with ASCII text containing the paper's title, authors' names, contact
name, email address, postal address, phone number, and a 100-word

Proposals for tutorials, panels and workshops are also solicited.

           --------------------------------------

Russia has been (and still is) a major force in most topics - even in
computer science. A surprising number of software development efforts
within the former Soviet Union are using object-oriented programming
and object-oriented design to build production software systems. Major
universities teach object oriented methods and there is some research in
this
area. Besides this there is much cooperation between Western and Russian
companies and research institutes.

It seems to be the right time for the first international conference in
Russia about object oriented technology. This conference should:

- help East and West to learn from one another
- help to build new connections
- give the opportunity to present and to learn about
  o the actual state of research in OO technology
  o OO based developments
  o practical experiences with OO

The conference will be held at the St. Petersburg university.
Accommodations
will be provided on-site. Additional accomodations will be available in
St. Petersburg. Airport limousine service between St. Petersburg Airport
and the conference site will be provided.
The conference organizers will help you in gathering the necessary visas.
