WOON '96 - CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
==================================
http://www.sigco.com/woon
"The White OO Nights" - a 2-day international conference focusing on
object-oriented technology, WOON '96, is to be held at St. Petersburg,
Russia, on June 20 and 21, 1996. Object technology experts from West
and East gather together to share their ideas and experiences with each
other at a very special time of year - the White Nights - no darkness
at all - nearly 24 hours of daylight. During the following weekend
there will be an optional sightseeing programme including visiting
the Hermitage and Peterhof (If you stay over the weekend, the
airline fares are rather low).
Up to now many high qualified papers were submitted so that it may even
be necessary to have two parallel sessions. Beside this there is a now
a preliminary tutorial program available. If you want to participate
at the conference you should not delay the registration as the process of
getting a visa is time consuming and you need a official invitation in
order
to apply for a visa.
Countries where papers were submitted from are:
Russia, Germany, Finnland, United States, Switzerland, France, Austria,
Brasilia and Bulgaria.
The preliminary list of tutorials and special meetings:
Wolfgang Hesse: Software process model for object-oriented
development
Alexei Kanatov, Oleg Karatcharov: Using Eiffel
Dmitry Mastrukov: OO Gui development
Bertrand Meyer: title to be announced
Richard Mitchell: Software Contracting
Frieder Monninger: genericity and inheritance

--------------------------------------
Russia has been (and still is) a major force in most topics - including
computer science. A surprising number of software development efforts
within the former Soviet Union are using object-oriented programming
and object-oriented design to build production software systems. Major
universities teach object oriented methods and there is some research in
this
area. Besides this there is much cooperation between Western and Russian
companies and research institutes.
It seems to be the right time for the first international conference in
Russia about object oriented technology. This conference should:
- help East and West to learn from one another
- help to build new connections
- provide the opportunity to present and to learn about
o the actual state of research in OO technology
o OO based developments
o practical experiences with OO
The conference will be held at the St. Petersburg electrotechnical
university. Accommodations will be provided on-site. Additional
accomodations will be available in St. Petersburg. Airport limousine
service between St. Petersburg Airport and the conference site will be
provided.
The conference organizers will help you in gathering the necessary visas.
