I hve recently learn SML and Haskell. I have written a few
programs in each. However, I have been frustrated in my
attempts to read floating point data from a file. Do these
provide for reading/writing formatted data?
I have read the Haskell papers in SIGPLAN and Harper's intro to
SML, but they did not help me.

I would appreciate it if I could see an example of formatted
input or output, in SML and in Haskell.

Thanks,
