Tabs expand or contract to fit to the configured > tab stops. Ever used a word processor? Yes. First of all, who uses word processors for development? But if that is the example you want to use, try this out: Paste the following into a word processor using a proportional-width font (I used Times New Roman): iiiiiiiiii<tab>iiiiiiiiii<tab>iiiiiiiiii wwwwwwwwww<tab>wwwwwwwwww<tab>wwwwwwwwww If you replace '<tab>' with an actual tab, I bet it doesn't line up. Proportional fonts are just a bad idea for viewing code, regardless of whether you use tabs or spaces for alignment. > > As Dale has already mentioned, spaces are interpretted consistently > > everywhere. The same cannot be said for tabs. With that being true > > (and it IS), I can't see why you would want to use tabs. > > Spaces are NOT interpretted consistently everywhere, did you not > just read my last post on this? Yes, and I chose not to acknowledge it, as nobody in their write mind would write code in a proportional width font. If you want to throw that in the mix - fine. I am assuming you are viewing code in a fixed-width font. Almost ANY editor I have uses Courier or something similar. If that is what we are talking about, than spaces are consistent, tabs are not. I fail to see how you cannot grasp this concept. If you want to use a propertional-width font, more power to you. Ryan
