The GoF Design Pattern's book, arguably one the most influential software development books in the last ten years, came out in January of 1995. The authors accumulated their OO knowledge from work done is C++ and Smalltalk years before that. I bet that knowledge is still valuable, even for a Java development project, no? Give me a good software developer with 3 months of Java over a so-so developer with four years of Java any day of the week. Languages are much easier to learn then sound development skills. > Ever seen non-proportional fonts outside of computers or mechanical > typewriters? Here a sans serif font is > appropriate. OK - if you are going to compare code to advertisements, then I don't even know how to respond. That really makes no sense at all. The only thing that needs to be conveyed in the code IS the code. You don't need a pretty, sexy font to add "meaning" to it. There IS a reason proportional fonts are used. It is so that the code is always displayed consistently. This allows the meaning of the code to come across as clear as possible. (This is also the reason I would argue that tabs should never be used - for consistency's sake. But that is another thing altogether). By the way, do you write code in non-proportional fonts? Do you put the class names in a 12-point font, while the rest of the code is in a 10-point font? To you put the REALLY important parts of the code in red, italics? Have you ever written code before? Ryan
