Overloading with unknown component type

Hi all,

I am trying to make a bean that can accept text from a number of different
text components. (I am using Jbuilder 2 with JDK1.1.6)

The code in the bean would look something like...

  public void sourceToASCII(FieldControl source) {

  public void sourceToASCII(TextArea source) {

  public void sourceToASCII() {


The first two methods work fine if they are called programmatically, but in
the properties for the bean I want to be able to select the 'source'
component. Then, when I call beanname.sourceToASCII(); it should take the
value that was entered in the properties window and use the correct method to
do the processing for that component.  I don't know how to find out what the
component type is of the object that can be selected from the properties
window.

Does anybody know how to do this?
I'm sorry for the lousy explanation but I can't really explain this simply.
