The first part of this makes a lot of sense. Use whatever tool
you find appropriate. The idea however that you know better than
others which tool this is I cant accept.
I know some excellent programmers who use vi, including some
of the more famous in the world. I even knew one who used edit on
windows. Then he used PFE, and I finally got him onto emacs.
For me emacs is the way forward for three reasons. Firstly what
I dont like, I can change. Secondly its cross platform. Thirdly its
works for any language, and I write in many. A lot of the tools (like
version control support) I use in all, and I see no reason why I
should waste time learning how different systems do their version
control, when I can use one tool integrated into what I want.
Dont get me wrong here, I am grateful that the java support
for emacs is the most advanced that Ive seen for any language, thanks
to the JDE. I dont eschew advanced tools out of pique, but in many
cases out of active choice, because they are often a lot less than
they are cracked up to be.
I also ride a bicycle rather than drive a car for much the
same reason...
