I have been learning java for the last few months, and found VAJ to be not only overkill, but also to be a tool that assumes a lot of basic knowledge of java that I didn't have. Using Kedit32, which has syntax coloring, and dos command-line compiling, has been, for me, a very good way to learn the language. If I had used VAJ, a whole lot of the basics would have been done for me, to my loss. In another couple of months, I'll be ready and able for VAj, and very happy to have it!
