JApplet ExceptionInInitializerError with Netscape/Activator

I do not why I get this exception at all... Any help appreciated.

I have an application which uses JDK1.2 beta 3 and Swing + JBuilder's
jbcl2.0.jar. I have Netscape 4.05 (no 1.1 patch) and Activator 1.1.1.
Activator is set to the correct JRE with no JIT. Apart from that one
jar I'm just using the application classes but that isn't where the
problem lies. The program works fine with appletviewer and (very oddly)
when I directly load the applet html into Netscape with Ctrl+o, the
applet works fine.

When I try to load an indirect html file first and then use its link to
the applet's html I get the error below. I also get this when I try to
load the applet's html file directly with a http server (which I need
for this applet's intended use):

java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError

 at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:490)

I don't understand this at all. Thanks in advance,
