Metrowerks Announces Beta Release of New CodeWarrior
Tools for the Java Card(tm) Platform
JAVAONE(SM) CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO-June 4, 2001- Metrowerks today
announced the first integrated development tool set built from the
ground up to create applications for the Java Card(tm) platform. The
tool set will help accelerate the delivery of Java Card technology-based
applications in key industries such as financial services,
telecommunications, and government.
The CodeWarrior for Java Card tools will provide developers with a fully
integrated environment for developing Java Card technology-based
applications and will integrate with many of the industry's leading card
readers and software development kits (SDKs), including those from
Schlumberger, Gemplus and Oberthur.
"Sun's collaboration with Metrowerks, an embedded industry expert, helps
provide developers with a robust, integrated tool set for the Java Card
platform, " said Aisling Macrunnels, director of marketing, Consumer
Technologies, Sun Microsystems. "This tool set will enhance the
development experience through improved efficiency in creating secure,
innovative smart card applications and value-added services."
The CodeWarrior for Java Card tools will greatly enhance the process of
developing Java Card technology-based applications by providing a
simulation environment for developers to test and debug applications
without the need to access the card reader hardware directly. The
extensible architecture of the CodeWarrior development environment
enables Java Card technology licensees to easily integrate additional
tool components.

"Metrowerks is committed to providing Java Card technology developers
with the tools they need to create innovative applications for the fast
growing smart card market," said John Smolucha, vice president of
marketing, Metrowerks. "Working closely with Sun, Metrowerks has
delivered a consistent set of integrated development tools across
multiple Java(tm) technologies, making it easy for developers to use
CodeWarrior to target a variety of Java technology-based platforms and
devices."
The beta program will begin later this month. Participants in the beta
program will have early access to the Metrowerks CodeWarrior for Java
Card tools prior to release and will be asked to provide feedback to
assist in the direction of the development effort. For more information
and directions on how to become a participant in the beta program,
please contact Metrowerks at mptp-admin@metrowerks.com. The final
release of the CodeWarrior for Java Card tools is expected to ship in
October 2001.
