Hi I have posted a similar mail sometime ago without much luck but thought I would try again. We are developing Java applications, applets with Jbuilder2, with a Sybase backend in a two tier architecture. Very soon we will be moving to a three tier architecture. We also have existing intranet applications html front end, via CGI/servlets to Sybase backend. What we are looking and I am sure a lot of you out there would be in a similar situation, is a Pure Java enterprise wide web based reporting tool. The tool should cater to i) Report designers: Provide a WYSWYG screen, ala windows style for designing the report and previewing it. ii) Java application developers and hence provide a well published pure Java API so that reports could be neatly integrated into the existing java/html based applications. iii) End Users(without java/SQL/html knowledge) who would like to perform Adhoc queries and print the output report WITHOUT the help of a Java Application developer. Additionally a) it should also output reports in both Html and PDF. b) no client side installation c) preferrable the report generation from the Sybase DB be done on a server running on a UNIX box. We have seen a few products ERW, JReport, JDesignerPro, CrystalInfo, Infospace recently but no single product seems to do it all. Well Crystal Info seems to be the most comprehensive of the lot but doesnt offer a pure Java API for it to be really Java compatible. Writing native code for Java doesnt sound right. There seems to be a dearth of Java reporting tools in the web environment to match the features of tradional Crytal reports style reports in the windows environment ??. Anybody with any pointers or references of tool vendors who could do the job. I would be interested to know how others are tackling the reporting situation in the java world as well.
