We experimented with porting some library code from C++ to Java, and tried to maintain the same interface. The idea is that we can use the same documentation/training material, and programmers are free to move between C++ and Java at will. Having built up **considerable** experience with both Java and C++ , I am still not sure for which domain each language is more suited. We're not talking about small programs, like simple applets. I was more thinking about real, commercial systems, like the trading or portfolio management systems we employ within Morgan Stanley. I am still not sure if we can ever get a reliable, robust, secure implementation of an "applet" running on thousands of machines in our heterogenuous network. Therefore, it will be a while before all this "legacy" code will be replaced by Java code. Companies like Morgan Stanley, and I assume JP Morgan also, invested considerable amounts in infrastructure software. It would be foolish to even start thinking about simply replacing all that code by Java. Instead, start thinking about levaraging your existing software. Feel free to use the c2j for whatever goal however :-) Chris.
