What about perl 5.x? It supports OOP, is fast and easy to use, decent
GUIs can be made if you make CGI interfaces with a WWW browser, a
byte-code compiler is supposedly in the works, there's LOTS of extant
code to recycle, etc.

Do you all consider perl a worthy contender?
