Ho ho.... P=Pascal (the language....) UC=University of California SD=San Diego It was a compiler/interpreter for Pascal that ran on a cheap and popular micro-computer in days before PC,... PC=IBM Personal Computers. A brief note: As far as I can tell, Every language that has become a widely used language has gone through a stage when it was given away free(in alphabetical order): Basic: On Chips and from Dartmouth and even Bill G's first publication C: From AT&T, Berzerkely, Gnu/FreeSoft C++: Gnu/Freesoft... FORTRAN, COBOL: Bundled with IBM Mainframes in 50's & 60's LISP: several, including IBM Mainframe... XLISP,... HTML: Lynx/Mosaic Pascal: from UCSD and (*memory failure*) Switzerland However, this is not a recipe for success... consider Prolog or SML for example. Mail me if you have an example of a computer language which has a large user base and has never been given away free. -- dick@csci.csusb.edu=rbotting@wiley.csusb.edu.
