I heard that someone has already started this... Can anyone confim or
deny this?

And maybe one day, there will be a new status report...
Dare us hope for an actual beta to experiment with?

[Sorry, just feeling bitter having been rejected from several jobs because of
no Java experience... Maybe I should haev bought a PC...]

Yes! I read about it somewhere - I'll scare up the project's URL and post
it here as soon as I do.

Well, being on the porting team, I can say that things are moving forward
again. This is going way slower than I'd hoped, and mostly it's
just problems with managing a project over the Internet without
the proper tools. A lot of time has been spent on building solutions
to various limitations (with regard to the Java virtual machine)
of the Amiga OS.

Hmm. Must be a lot of Java jobs in Vancouver - that's what I'm doing
mostly right now.

Progress is being made on the port.
The Amiga is a natural platform since it has lightweight
processes. A central internetted machine is serving as the
code repository for the team working on the port. They have had
success on the underlying challenges (threads, monitors, etc)
but the AWT port is yet to come.

I have high hopes for this port, as the Amiga would make
a fine lightweight JAVA development and execution machine.

I've been trying to entice the keeper of the web page to update it
but no luck as yet. I'd take it over but I can't publish on the Web
yet...
