documentWidth (=offsetWidth) for a nested layer in NN6

can anyone tell me how to get the documentWidth for a nested layer in
Netscape6
because
document.getElementById("nestedLayer").offsetWidth
holds only the value of the offsetWidth/documentWidth of the parent layer
it's urgent!
