The 15th Conference on Testing Computer Software (TCS'98) will include a
number of workshops and sessions of interest to Java programmers and other
developers of Internet applications.
The Conference will be held June 8-12, 1998 in the Washington, D.C. area.
The theme: "Testing Under Pressure" is highly relevant to meeting the
challenges of the increasingly complex software development and usage
environment.
The complete TCS'98 program can be explored on the Web:

TESTING JAVA APPLETS AND APPLICATIONS
Java presents some interesting challenges for testing. On one hand,
characteristics of the languages such as strong typing and garbage
collection reduce the likelihood of particular errors occuring in Java
code. On the other hand, the way in which Java is used and certain aspects
of the language cause new testing problems. These issues, coupled with the
problems associated with testing object-oriented software in general, make
Java testing a unique and difficult task. This workshop focuses on how to
test Java effectively. Issues with testing Java and object-oriented
software are discussed. Approaches to testing Java classes, beans, applets
and applications are presented. Topics such as testing reusable Java
components, using slicing and dataflow for class testing, configuration
testing Java applets and test automation are discussed.

FUNDAMENTALS OF INTERNET/INTRANET APPLICATION TESTING
This workshop gives students a solid foundations for understanding Web
based applications, planning and sizing a test/certification effort, and
selecting the correct tools to carry it out. The course includes a "How it
works" overview of Web architecture and the new programming paradigms used
to develop Intranet and Internet applications. Students are introduced to
certification basics for Intranet and Internet applications, including
risk based test planning and analysis techniques, and fundamental (and
useful) test metrics. Included is a guided tour of several new automated
static analysis tools including Web site management tools, automated
hyperlink certification and content quality analysis; as well as dynamic
analysis tools including: site usage tracking, analysis and user profiles.
