Phone number would be good but not 1-800... MIT Press is still in business at: MIT Press Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge Massachusetts MA 02142 United States The telephone numbers I have for them (1989) are Person +1 617 253 1584 Fax +1 617 258 6779 MIT books are heavy and (in the UK) expensive; they tend to be dip-ins rather than read-throughs. With that in mind, have a look both at their Logo series and their AI series. In the Logo series, I would recommend `Turtle Geometry' and `Exploring Calculus Discretely' [?]. From the AI series I would particularly point out `Structure and interpretation of computer programs'. Although this is written with examples in Scheme, much of what it says is also true of Logo. Parts of it are so well written that they really have to be read aloud, like poetry. The only MIT Logo series book I have been disappointed with was Michael Friendly's `Advanced Logo' because I had seen all the material in it presented elsewhere, and I didn't take to his as it were painting-by-numbers approach. -- Ken Johnson -- //// Advice to dieters: //// Ken Johnson, A I Applications Institute //// Never eat more than //// 80 South Bridge, EDINBURGH EH1 1HN //// you can carry. //// E-mail ken@aiai.ed.ac.uk //// -- Miss Piggy //// phone 031-650 2756 fax 031-650 6513
