The only options I have seen are Pascal and BASIC. BASIC is a language that
does a great diservice to the student. I have recived mail from a few people
saying that I should teach him LISP, Scheme, ms Visual BASIC and Oberon.

I have never heard of scheme or Oberon. I don't like LISP or BASIC. And, lest
we forget, this is for an 11 year old. LISP is not easy. I have yet to meet
an 11 year old AI researcher.

I think Pascal is a nice language. It is easy to learn; and, if nothing else,
It show that everyone must put up with stupid rules in order to get a job
done.

Why is everyone Pascal bashing?
