This is another part of the stuff I wrote for the British Logo User
Group. (What a pity there isn't a Scottish Logo User Group -- its
members could have abbreviated its name to SLUG.)

I can't reproduce italics in this posting; sorry.

This is posting 2 of 2

Glossary

These are terms commonly used between Logo programmers.
Sometimes the same words have a slightly different
meaning in the computing community generally. For a
general guide to computing terminology read: Galland F
J, Dictionary of computing. Wiley, 1982. For a
hilarious introduction to hackers' slang try: Steele G
L, Woods D R et al: The Hacker's dictionary, a guide to
the world of computer wizards. New York: Harper and
Row, 1983.

Words in italics are cross-references.

greedy primitive: a primitive which accepts a variable
number of inputs

Usually expressed in degrees clockwise from north.

it applies, e. g. the + in 2 + 3

and lists, bound between square brackets [ and ]

local variable: variable created as an input to a
procedure, or by a local statemement, which exists only
while the procedure that created it is running

microworld: collection of programs that allow
exploration in a particular subject area

music box: musical instrument which can be played by
giving Logo commands

predicate: a procedure which performs a test and
returns true or false, e. g. = , greaterq

prefix: appearing before the expressions to which it
applies, e. g. the add in add 2 3

primitive: a command built into the Logo system

procedure: a collection of Logo commands (c.f. editor)

program: collection of procedures which does something
interesting

property list: information about an object stored in
