MswLogo Version 1.2A for Micro-Soft Windows 3.X is ready !!!
------------------------------------------------------------
LOCATION: itrc::/millspub/mswlogo12a.zip (this is a DEC internal location)
or
cher.media.mit.edu on pub/comp.lang.logo/programs/mswlogo
or
Request by mail (Note some addresses I have not been able to reply
to successfully).
New features/bugs fixed:
o It Really is 3.X compatible this time (minus a few features for 3.0
Windows users, see bugs).
o Lots of cleanup and performance fixes so 3.1 Windows users may be
happier with this version also.
To Install it:
1) UnZip MSWLOGO12A.ZIP into a directory (e.g. c:\logo)
2) UnZip LOGOLIB.ZIP (included in MSWLOGO12A.ZIP) into LIB (e.g. c:\logo\lib)
Note: If you do not use c:\logo as the root you must set the
environment variable LOGOPATH to where you put it (e.g.
set logopath=d:\games\logo in autoexec.bat)
3) Start Windows and add Icon as follows:
a) Select the applications (or other) icon box.
b) Go into Program manger FILE menu and click on New.
c) Select Program Item and click OK.
d) Enter the command for logo (e.g. c:\logo\logo).
e) Include a working directory (e.g. c:\logo\work) or you'll have ".lg"
files all over the place.
Start it from Windows by double clicking the Logo Icon
Start it from DOS by typing "win logo" at DOS prompt (assuming logo.exe
is in your PATH).
Try typing "DEMO" at the "*" prompt (out of bounds at end of demo is normal).
Standard features:
o Supports Text
o Floodfill (except printing, still working on this)
o penwidth.
o Save and restore images in metafile format.
o screencolor (background).
o 16.7 million pen and background colors (using windows dithering).
o Standard Windows Hypertext Help.
o Standard Windows Printing.
o Supports separate library and work area.
Bugs / Basic Missing features:
o getpen incompatible with pencolor.
o Some printers (maybe all) will not handle floodfills.
I beleive I will have it fixed soon.
o DO NOT EXIT MswLogo by "Closing" the "Commander" window. It will not
free resources. Use File-Exit on "Screen" window.
o Well I finally tested under 3.0 and now understand all the complaints
and the reasons for failing. The problem is due to bugs in windows
V3.0 that I had to work around. I have not worked around them all
So for now Printing, Save-and-Restore-Image is disabled for Windows 3.0
users.
o Real Mode is not supported.
If someone with a standard 3.0 windows system could check functionality
it would be very helpful.
Wish list:
o Needs halt button.
o Status window (pen color, width, heading, pen status (up down erase))
o Need sound blaster support.
o needs debug support.
o Undo/Redo
The Core of this Version of Logo comes from a project done by Boston Childrens
Museum and Lincoln Sudbury Regonal High School. The Port to Windows was done
by George Mills Digital Equipment Corporation. Digital Equipment Corporation
takes no responsibility for the software.
There is also a DOS version (with out the added functionality added to MswLOGO)
is available. If anyone is interested let me know. Does not work on Herc
monitors.
