I'm seeking information on the use of Logo as a music composition language and particularly information on the use of Loco. Thanks - email preferred! Jeff Harrington idealord@dorsai.com

MswLogo 2.4 (hopefully to be released this weekend) Has what is called an MCI interface. You can make all the MCI calls to Windows multimedia devices. You can control your MIDI (I don't have one so I can't test it). Control your sound card, CD-ROM player etc. It's all done through one single command "mci". The arguments are a completely new set of commands processed by "Windows" (not LOGO). Example: mci [open c:\windows\tada.wav type waveaudio alias test] mci [play test wait] mci [close test] It is not meant to replace (or compete) with something like Micro-Soft Media player. It can do anything it can do and more, but under control of Logo (not a GUI). It's a similar difference between Paint and Logo. Paint is great for free hand drawing, but try to draw a perfect spiral in Paint. In Logo try to draw a face (it's difficult) but in Paint it's easy. This is true for "Media manipulators" and Logo (with MCI). But I don't have a good analogy, but you can image how powerfull Logo with MCI can be. Also note LOGO with MCI does not do sound generation. That comes in the next chapter. Limitations: mci [... notify routine] does not work (maybe someday). MicroSoft has a rather large online help file on the MCI commands. I do not have permission to supply this file (yet). If I can't supply it I'll have to write one (starting small and simple and grow it). It does not work with sound card emulator (SPEAKER.EXE). You have to have a real multi-media device (sound card, MIDI, or CD-ROM, etc).
