WinLOGO has recently been ported to English. A Mr. Shiva Raja is
presently working on U.S. marketing of the new English WinLOGO. If
people are interested in obtaining more information about WinLOGO,
they should probably contact Mr. Raja directly. His U.S. phone number
is (508) 263-1791.

Q. Where can I get Logo cheap(ly)?

A. There is a "JEM LOGO" (the file I have is packaged in a
self-extracting archive called LOGO.COM). Release 2 is copyright 1987
by James Moriartey
174 Garnet Crescent
Wetaskiwin, Alberta
Canada T9A 2S6
It is shareware, with a price of $20.00.

There is also a (rather bizarre) "LOGO-like environment" called Roo.
It is by Forware Systems in Bulgaria, the US agent is listed as:
msapir@hoss.unl.edu
3125 Vine St
Lincoln, NE 68503
The files in the archive I have are mid-'91 to early '92.

Q. Where can I get Logo for free?

A. LSRHS Logo is obsolete, butget the file pub/combined.tar.Z from
anarres.cs.berkeley.edu for a newer version

The alpha test release of Berke
ley Logo is hereby officially
available by anonymous FTP. "Alpha test" means that I know there are
bugs in it! But you're welcome to try it if you understand that.
I'm happy to get bug reports but I don't promise anything.

FTP to anarres.cs.berkeley.edu and get the following files:

pub/logo.tar.Z Unix sources and documentation
pub/ucblogo.zip PC version, PKZIP form, including executable BL.EXE
pub/ucblogo.sit.hqx Mac version, StuffIt/BinHex form, w/ executable Logo
pub/usermanual Just the documentation file.
pub/csls.tar.Z Logo programs from _Computer Science Logo Style_

Advantages of Berkeley Logo:
        * It's free.
        * It comes with source files (in C).
        * Logo programs are completely compatible among Unix, PC, and Mac.
Disadvantages of Berkeley Logo:
     * It's pretty slow.
        * It doesn't do anything fancy about graphics. (One turtle.)
        * It still has bugs. In particular, it runs out of memory easily.

MswLogo Version 2.1 for Micro-Soft Windows 3.X
          at cher.media.mit.edu on pub/comp.lang.logo/programs/mswlogo
          (also doslogo)

Q. Where can I read up on Logo?

A. The MIT Press Logo books:

Clayson, James, "Visual Modeling with Logo"
Geometric activities such as tiling, with a lot of detailed attention
to actual patterns used in different cultures.

Cuoco, Albert, "Investigations in Algebra"
Examples mainly from combinatorics and number theory used to develop
        ideas in abstract algebra.

Goldenberg, E. Paul, and Wallace Feurzeig, "Exploring Language with Logo"
down to small units (sound and spelling of words).

Hoyles, Celia, and Richard Noss, "Learning Mathematics and Logo"
Just out -- a collection of research papers about various aspects
of the use of Logo in math classrooms.

Lewis, Philip G., "Approaching Precalculus Mathematics Discretely"
ith a very advanced look at the mathematics
        behind the graphics.

Harvey, Brian, "Computer Science Logo Style"
        My three-volume series:
            1. Intermediate Programming
            2. Projects, Styles, and Techniques
            3. Advanced Topics
The first volume is basically a Logo programming text with the
emphasis on list processing (hardly any graphics). The second
is a collection of ten programming projects with commentary.
The third is the first week of six college courses, from automata
theory through compilers to artificial intelligence.

Solomon, Cynthia, "Computer Environments for Children"
A research document describing and comparing four different
approaches to the use of computers in education, including Logo.
