You seem to be upset when computer software use $.

Don't think of it as currency, but as a funny character that wasn't being
used for anything else, so programmers grabbed it. I also grab characters
like ` or # or @ for special uses because they're there and not otherwise
used in the contexts.

It is the US currency symbol because Europe blew out its brains as
electronic computers were being invented and coming into mass production.
Much about computers is USAcentric because the USA was (and still is?) the
leading producer and consumer of computers. It's not right, it's not
wrong, it just made most of costumers happy in the days of 64  (and then
95) fixed character sets.
